The Top 10 Harmful Toxins Commonly Found in Skin Care Products

Today, I have a guide for you which simplifies the top 10 harmful toxins commonly found in skin care products. This topic can be overwhelming, but it is immensely important because what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies, which then ends up affecting our overall health and well being.

Many common ingredients used in cosmetics (even in some "natural" skincare products) are known carcinogens, endocrine and hormonal disruptors, allergens, may affect fertility, can have adverse neurological effects, and studies have even linked them to birth defects and various types of cancer. Yet, companies are allowed to incorporate them into the products that we use every day. Some of these known toxins are even banned in other countries, yet they are still allowed for sale within the United States.

Below is a very simplified guide to the top 10 toxins which are commonly found in many skin care products. This list could have been much longer or included way more than 10 chemicals (unfortunately, there are so many), but I thought that something short and to the point might be more helpful.

Luckily, there is a fairly easy solution to this issue by simply purchasing products without toxins, but knowing which ingredients are harmful is the first step towards identifying which products to skip. If in doubt, I always go by the same rule that I use for food: look for ingredients that you can pronounce and can identify by name. Choosing brands that only use clean ingredients makes it even easier, and if you're reading this article, then you likely already know that we only use the purest ingredients here at Fawn Lily Botanica - no synthetic preservatives, sudsing agents, artificial fragrances, colors, or anything else that could be harmful to our bodies or to the earth. Rather, we only utilize pure, plant-based ingredients which are certified organic, fair trade, sustainably and ethically sourced, unrefined, raw, and truly as natural and unprocessed as possible. This makes narrowing your choices down even easier!
