This very special facial serum features two incredible ingredients: Bakuchiol (nature's retinol) & jasmine flowers!

Clinical studies have found Bakuchiol to be just as effective as retinol*, so we've combined it with Jasmine flower absolute to make something truly incredible! Retinol is well known for its anti-aging benefits, but it is not well tolerated by everyone since it can cause sun sensitization, redness, irritation, burning, itching, dry skin, etc., ~ especially for those with very sensitive skin. Meet Bakuchiol, a gentler and botanical alternative to retinol!

And, if you currently use retinol, you can still use Bakuchiol too! Studies suggest that they are a powerful duo when used together because they have similar, yet different and complementary benefits. For example, Bakuchiol contains antioxidant properties that complement the vitamin A in retinol, Bakuchiol helps stabilize retinol, Bakuchiol can be used during the daytime whereas retinol is best used at night, and Bakuchiol can help soothe and nourish skin which has been irritated by retinol.

Bakuchiol doesn't cause the side effects that retinol can cause, is completely natural and derived from plants, and clinical studies have shown it to be just as effective as retinol at treating wrinkles, evening skin tone, and improving skin elasticity and firmness.* It also doesn't cause dryness or irritation, is also known to stimulate collagen production and speed up skin cell regeneration, assist with various skin conditions, and helps skin become refreshed, brighter, and more radiant. It can also be used during the day, whereas retinol is usually only applied at night (since retinol causes skin to become more sensitive to the sun). Plus, Bakuchiol is gentle and can be used by all skin types ~ including those of us with sensitive skin! Please note that we're not trying to dissuade anyone from using retinol ~ it has shown to have amazing results and has many more clinical studies conducted on it. But, for those who prefer a gentler plant-based ingredient, or whose skin is too irritated by retinol, Bakuchiol is a wonderful alternative!

Bakuchiol is usually sold as a concentrated extract. But, in wanting to keep our products as pure as possible, we found a cold-pressed oil made from the seeds of the Babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia), an Ayurvedic botanical with a long history of use in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to help calm and soothe the skin. This Bakuchi oil naturally contains a high level of Bakuchiol, making it the purest form of Bakuchiol out there! Plus, the oil contains other benefits that the Babchi plant has to offer (which likely wouldn't be present in a standardized extract).

Research suggests that Bakuchiol should be used in concentrations of 0.5-2% for the best results. So, we've formulated our serum to contain 1% Bakuchiol (our vendor tests each lot of Bakuchi oil, so we're able to calculate out the Bakuchiol concentration accordingly).

PLUS, this serum contains Jasmine, the "king of flowers"! Featuring real jasmine absolute extracted from jasmine grandiflora flowers, an absolutely delightful ingredient with a deep, intoxicating aroma known to promote harmony, uplift the spirits, and promote feelings of love, positivity, and confidence. It takes approximately 8,000 hand-picked jasmine blossoms to produce 1ml of this absolute (making it one of the more expensive and precious oils to purchase), so this truly is a special ingredient and it's such an exquisite flower to formulate with!

As if the Bakuchiol and Jasmine isn't enough, this serum is packed with other botanical goodness including the nourishing, lightweight, protective, and smoothing oils of meadowfoam, hazelnut, apricot, and macadamia!

This facial oil soaks in quickly and leaves skin feeling silky, dewy, fresh, smooth, moisturized, nourished, and protected. The scent is sweet, floral, and exotic, with undertones of rich nuttiness from the Bakuchi and Macadamia nut oils, while the delicious scent of jasmine lingers on the skin.

The full ingredient list for this serum is: meadowfoam oil, hazelnut oil, virgin organic apricot kernel oil, cold pressed bakuchi / bakuchiol oil pressed from psoralea corylifolia seeds, virgin organic macadamia nut oil, and vitamin E oil, pure jasmine (jasmine grandiflorum) absolute, and organic ylang ylang essential oil.

* A little more information about some of the research:

A clinical trial published by the British Association of Dermatologists in 2018 compared the efficacy of bakuchiol and retinol for common signs of facial aging. The test ran for 12 weeks and compared bakuchiol 0.5% cream twice daily to retinol 0.5% cream daily. The study concluded that: "Our study demonstrates that bakuchiol is comparable with retinol in its ability to improve photoageing and is better tolerated than retinol. Bakuchiol is promising as a more tolerable alternative to retinol."

Although Bakuchi oil has been used for many years in Indian Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine for skin care, it is a "newer" ingredient which has not been widely studied in modern times. However, in very recent years, dozens of clinical studies have shown that Bakuchiol should be further studied to fully understand it's benefits, but concluded that it is a "retinol alternative with anti-aging, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties."
